Guild runs the Postgraduate Diploma Course
in Book Publishing (PGDBP). The University-Guild
partnership is a path-breaking step that
helps widen scope of the pass- outs.
The one-year course covers all aspects
and techniques of book publishing and
aims to make you just the person the industry
is looking for. It ensures creative engagement
as a competent editor, pre-production
and production in-charge, an innovative
expert in book marketing and promotion.
The course also enables you to take the
challenge of starting your own publishing
venture.

SESSION |
From
January to December

ELIGIBILITY |
| Graduation
in any stream (Hons/Pass/Vocational etc) from
a recognized university. No upper age limit.
|
|
SEATS |
| Twenty-six
(26) seats in total. Five (5) seats are
reserved for candidates sponsored by publishing/printing
organizations and one (1) seat is reserved
for NRI/ Foreign candidates. Reservation
for SC/ST/PH candidates as per rules and
University norms.
If any seat reserved for sponsored candidates
remains vacant, vacancy shall be filled-up
from among other candidates. The seat earmarked
for NRI/ Foreign candidates shall not be
filled-up from any other category in case
of any vacancy. If any seats reserved for
SC/ST/PH candidates remain vacant, vacancies
shall be filled-up from among the general
candidates duly selected.

APPLICATION |
|
Application Forms are available at the C
U Sales Counter, Asutosh Building (Ground
Floor), College Street Campus, Kolkata-700073
on payment of Rs.200 in cash. Forms can
also be downloaded from the University website
(www.caluniv.ac.in) and from the website
of the Guild. However, in such cases, please
enclose with the application a crossed bank
draft/ bankers cheque of Rs. 200/- drawn
in favour of ‘PGDBP, CU’ payable
at Kolkata.
Candidates sponsored by publishing/printing
organizations, are required to collect a
letter of recommendation issued for the
purpose by the Publishers & Booksellers
Guild and to submit the same in original
along with the applications.

SELECTION |
Strictly on merit. Candidates seeking
admission to the course shall have to
qualify in the written Admission Test
by securing at least 25% of the marks
and final selection will be made on the
basis of cumulative score of the written
test and interview as detailed below-
WRITTEN TEST (Total Marks - 100;
Duration – 90 minutes)
Part A: Objective Type Multiple
Choice Questions (Marks: 70)
(General Knowledge, Reasoning Ability,
Comprehension Skill, Book Publishing &
Production etc)
Part B: Descriptive Type Questions
(Marks 30)
INTERVIEW (Marks: 50)
In both Part A and Part B of the written
test, questions are set in English. For
Part B, the candidates can answer either
in English or in Bengali. The list of
candidates eligible for Interview is notified
on the basis of results of the written
test.
A Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe / Physically
Handicapped candidate shall be eligible
for admission only if he/she gets at least
75 per cent of the marks obtained by the
lowest scoring candidate belonging the
general category in the final list of
the selected.

FEES |
Admission Fee: Rs. 500
Tuition Fee: Rs. 8500 (Rs.10, 000 for sponsored
candidates and Rs.12, 000 for NRI/ Foreign
candidate.)
Library Fee and Examination Fee separate.
Tuition Fee and Admission Fee are received
in full at the time of admission. All fees
are non-refundable. |

CLASSES |
|
Ordinarily three days in a week –Monday,
Wednesday and Friday-between 4-30 and 7-45
pm. A minimum of 65% attendance is a must. |
|

|
Classes are held on the first floor of the
historic Asutosh Building at the College Street
Campus, which is in the midst of city’s
premier publishing hubs and can be reached
by public transport from all parts of the
metropolis and its periphery. |
